AN EXPERIMENT OF AUDIENCE AWARENESS EFFECTS ON COLLEGE STUDENTS’ ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING

    Get PDF
This experimental study explored the effects of different levels (imagined audience vs. interactive audience) and timing of audience interaction (during planning vs. revision) on undergraduate students’ self-efficacy and quality of argumentative writing. A total of 138 students from four undergraduate educational psychology courses participated in this study. Three conditions were compared: imagined audience, interactive audience during planning and interactive audience during revision. Results showed that students interacting with audience during revision produced significantly more argumentative elements (below level 1 reasons of opposing view) and had higher self-efficacy for audience awareness than the other two conditions. Students’ cognitive load and audience-related strategies utilized during the writing task were also explored. Findings generally showed that audience-related strategies and distribution of cognitive resources during different stages of writing are likely to be associated with differences in writing performance. An Examination on the Historical Distribution and Transformation of Cinnabar Localities Through Chinese Materia Medica Works

The distribution and transformation of cinnabar localities in the history of China as reflected in Chinese materia medica works has been a dynamic process. In the Pre-Qin Period and Qin-Han Dynasties, mining clustered around the few cinnabar localities that were scattered. During Wei, Jin, and the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the number of cinnabar localities gradually increased, and there was a shift of production center. In Tang-Song Dynasties, localities containing cinnabar were more explicitly identified and significantly expanded in size; the tendency toward a shift of production center became more obvious. During Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, the size of cinnabar localities continued to expand a little. The increasing expansion of the localities and the gradual shift of production center was the result of the interplay of many factors including the medicinal attributes and functions of cinnabar, society’s demand for cinnabar, mining technologies, the attributes of cinnabar as a natural resource and its religious and cultural functions. An in-depth examination and understanding of the pattern of distribution and transformation of cinnabar localities through Chinese materia medica works would offer better guidance for present-day mining of cinnabar and selection of authentic herbal medicine

On the Significance of the Poetry of Talking About Celestial Beings in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties for Researching Daoist (Taoist) History

    Get PDF
There were poems of talking about celestial beings in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties (220-589 A. D.). These poems formed an important part of the poetic culture in that time. This kind of poetry originated before Han dynasty, such as Qu Yuan’s Li Sao, Travel and other works which described the life and environment of celestial beings. In Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the poetry had the well development and was rich in content, which contained a lot of historical material about Daoism. However, in the past academic research, scholars have not fully used the poetry of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties to research Daoism. As historical material of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, these poems show the “worship trend for Daoism”, “Daoist rituals”, “Daoist meditation” and “Daoist metaphors”, and provide material for relevant special research. However, at the same time, due to the special art form of the poetry, these poems may be obscure, difficult to understand, exaggerated and falsely describing things. All of these disadvantages led scholars restrict the use of these poems in the historical study of Daoism

Is the Inflation Reduction Act Effective? A Forward-Looking Review of the IRA

    Get PDF
This paper conducts an in-depth examination of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), significant legislation aimed at addressing a series of critical economic and climate issues in the United States. It introduces the concept of inflation and discusses the key provisions of the IRA across four major areas: climate change, energy security, prescription drug prices, and tax reforms. Additionally, the paper analyzes the Act’s overall impact on inflation separately, providing a comprehensive review of its effectiveness. The study evaluates the IRA through an analysis of economic data and news reports, considering the policy’s broader implications and offering suggestions for future research

Dynamics of coupled phantom and tachyon fields

In this paper, we apply the dynamical analysis to a coupled phantom field with scaling potential taking particular forms of the coupling (linear and combination of linear), and present phase space analysis. We investigate if there exist late time accelerated scaling attractor that has the ratio of dark energy and dark matter densities of the order one. We observe that the scrutinized couplings cannot alleviate the coincidence problem, however acquire stable late time accelerated solutions. We also discuss coupled tachyon field with inverse square potential assuming linear coupling.Comment: 16 pages, 6 caption figures, 3 Tables, text, figure are added, matches with the published versio
